You can still turn off the splashscreen for faster loading, customize macro & file locations etc. Basically I was able to start productive work right out of the box rather than trying to get used to idiosyncracies of a new interface. I appreciated being able to use the version 8 keyboard commands if I want. The menu bar is slightly different than my prior version (12) but pretty intuitively obvious and you can still choose what to include on the menu bars. You can still extensively customize most of the interface. You can pick & choose which file formats you'll likely need to convert at installation, but of course add in (or remove) more filters later. WordPerfect continues to be compatible with prior versions since 6.1 and still offers multiple filters for importing & conversion from other file formats. I've been using WordPerfect since version 6.1, and MS Word since about 1993.
